Diagnostics in the practice

For most internal medicine questions you do not need to travel far:

• Ultrasound (sonography) of the abdominal organs, the thyroid, and of lungs and pleura
• Resting ECG and long-term ECG
• 24-hour blood pressure monitoring
• Lung function test (spirometry)
• In-house rapid lab (CRP, blood sugar, urine), routine and specialised lab tests

Long-term care for chronic conditions

With a chronic condition, continuity matters most – partly within structured treatment programmes (DMP). Among other things we look after:

• Diabetes mellitus

• Cardiovascular disease
• Thyroid disease
• COPD and asthma

When is an internal medicine work-up worthwhile?

For example with these complaints. Whether an examination is needed, and which, we decide after talking with you and examining you.

• Unexplained tiredness, drop in performance or unintended weight loss
• Palpitations, racing heart or fluctuating blood pressure
• Persistent abdominal complaints
• Abnormal lab values, for example of the thyroid or liver
• Shortness of breath or a persistent cough

• Do I need a referral?

  No. As a family practice you can come directly, whether you have statutory or private insurance. Please bring existing findings and your medication plan.

• Does health insurance cover ultrasound and long-term ECG?

  Medically necessary examinations are covered. Whether a service is included, we discuss openly with you before every examination.

• How long do I wear a long-term ECG?

  Usually 24 hours. The device is small and hardly gets in the way; you bring it back the next day and we then evaluate the recording.
