Prevention & travel medicine

Health check-up and travel medicine in Hofheim am Taunus

Prevention is worthwhile above all when nothing hurts yet. We offer the preventive examinations covered by statutory health insurance, advise on vaccinations and prepare you for travel.

Health check-up (“Check-up 35”)

People with statutory insurance are entitled to one health check-up between the ages of 18 and 34, and every three years from age 35. It includes:

  • A conversation about previous illnesses, family history and lifestyle
  • Physical examination and blood pressure measurement
  • From age 35: blood test for cholesterol and blood sugar, and a urine test
  • Once from age 35: test for hepatitis B and C
  • Advice on your personal health risks

Skin cancer screening

From age 35, statutory health insurance covers an examination of the whole skin for skin cancer every two years. It combines well with the check-up.

Vaccinations

We check your vaccination record and close gaps according to the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) – from tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough to flu, pneumococcal and shingles vaccines, and vaccinations for chronic conditions or a weakened immune system. Please bring your vaccination record.

Travel medicine advice

Before trips, especially to tropical and subtropical countries, we advise on vaccinations, malaria prevention and health risks at your destination. Please come six to eight weeks before departure so there is enough time for all vaccinations.

  • Travel vaccinations suited to destination and vaccination status
  • Advice on malaria prevention
  • Travel medicine kit and tips for travelling with chronic conditions

Frequently asked questions

  • How often does health insurance cover the check-up?

Once between 18 and 34, and every three years from age 35. Privately insured patients should clarify the scope with their insurer.

  • Are travel vaccinations paid for by health insurance?

Travel vaccinations are not a standard statutory benefit, but many health funds reimburse them voluntarily. It is best to ask your fund in advance.

  • When should I come for travel advice?

Ideally six to eight weeks before departure, because some vaccinations need several doses. An appointment shortly before travel is still worthwhile.
